KINGSPORT – The 2016 United Way of Greater Kingsport (UWGK) 24th Annual Week of Caring ran from June 20 – 24 2016. Over 1,000 volunteers completed 126 projects throughout the region for 28 member agencies, two schools, and two area nonprofits. The financial impact of this year’s Week of Caring was an astounding $146,306.60 for a cumulative 6,210 hours of work.
Kingsport Times-News: KINGSPORT — United WE READ kicked off its annual summer book club earlier this week at the V.O. Dobbins Community Center splash pad, with a morning filled with food, fun, games and a little bit of water.
Sullivan County Imagination Library press release: The Sullivan County Imagination Library was recently awarded a $3,000 Community Initiative grant from the United Way of Greater Kingsport (UWGK). This grant will promote literacy by providing funding for 2,857 free, age-appropriate Imagination Library books to be mailed to Sullivan County preschool children from birth to age five. This is the sixth consecutive year the UWGK has supported the Sullivan County Imagination Library. Over those years, the UWGK has sponsored a total of 17,142 books for local preschool children.
