Featured Success Story - Promoting Self-Sufficiency

Teresa Taylor and her two children entered Family Promise of Greater Kingsport in 2017. Because of her dedication to following the guidelines of our self-sufficiency program, Teresa was able to obtain full-time employment after being unembloyed for 5 years. This employment helped her to save money for 90 days, so that when she was preparing to leave Family Promise, she had saved enough money to pay for the deposit and first month's rent on an apartment. In addition, she had a small savings account, which helped her be prepared for future financial obligations.

No matter the obstacles, no matter the odds, at United Way of Greater Kingsport we are not afraid to stop talking and start doing, band together, and take on the impossible. United We Fight, and United We Win! We fight for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in our community, because change doesn't happen alone. To live better, we must LIVE UNITED. Please join us in becoming a donor at one of our levels of giving below.

The Alexis de Tocqueville Society bears the Fleur de Lis symbol, representing faith, wisdom, and valor. Members have the ability, the generosity, and the courage to place themselves at the pinnacle of charitable giving and community service. The society derives its name from Alexis de Tocqueville, a French artistocrat of the 1800s who was inspired by the American spirit of philanthropy. His observations formed the basis of Democracy in America, a detailed study of American society and politics. Tocqueville wrote extensively on the power of voluntary giving for the common good. Today, his ideas continue with United Way's call to action: Give. Advocate. Volunteer. All members of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society will receive an invitation to both our Leadership Giving Recognition Event and our Annual Alexis de Tocqueville Recognition Event.
