The United Way of Greater Kingsport (UWGK) Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Josh Mullins has been selected as the organization’s next Executive Director following an extensive and thoughtful search process. Josh will officially begin his tenure on March 23, 2026.
“Communities are strongest when people look out for one another, and United Way has long been a way for neighbors to do exactly that. I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve Greater Kingsport and to work alongside the many partners and volunteers who care deeply about this place,” Josh said. “I look forward to listening, learning, and partnering with those who are already doing so much to make Greater Kingsport stronger.”
Josh brings more than a decade of experience in nonprofit leadership, community engagement, and strategic development across Appalachian communities. Most recently, he served as Senior Director of Operations at Hindman Settlement School in Kentucky, where he guided program growth from 3 school sites to 25, strengthened organizational systems, and contributed to major funding partnerships totaling tens of millions of dollars. His track record demonstrates a strong commitment to long term community impact and a collaborative leadership style grounded in listening, humility, and empowering local strengths.
Josh has also been connected to the United Way network through prior involvement with United Way of Southeastern Kentucky, offering him helpful perspective on the organization’s collaborative approach to community impact. This background, combined with his broader leadership experience, supports his strong alignment with the mission, values, and strategic priorities of United Way of Greater Kingsport.
As previously shared, current Executive Director Danelle Glasscock will retire this month after 15 years of dedicated service to UWGK and the Greater Kingsport community. The Board expresses its gratitude for her leadership and the strong organizational foundation she leaves behind.
Over the coming weeks, Josh will begin meeting with community partners, volunteers, donors, and stakeholders as he transitions into his new role. The United Way of Greater Kingsport Board of Directors invites the community to join in welcoming Josh as he steps into this important position.
