KINGSPORT, TENNESSEE – United Way of Greater Kingsport (UWGK) announces another $50,000 disbursement from their COVID-19 Relief Fund. The dollars will be awarded to Greater Kingsport nonprofits via a competitive, open grant process. Qualifying 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations who both work in health and human services and also reach clients within UWGK's footprint (identified by zip codes 37660, 37662, 37663, 37664, 37665, 37617) are invited to apply before the May 6th deadline.
"United Way has a long-standing history of partnership with other nonprofits," said Danelle Glasscock, UWGK Executive Director. "The UWGK COVID-19 Relief Fund was set up to support community organizations that are working to meet the needs of individuals affected by COVID-19 in the Greater Kingsport area. For both immediate needs and longer-term response, these funds will be focused on assisting vulnerable populations, including children, families, individuals experiencing homelessness, the elderly and ALICE." ALICE is an acronym coined by United Way that represents all who are Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. This demographic is made of men, women, and families who work hard and earn more than the official Federal Poverty Level, but less than the basic cost of living.
UWGK's grant application states that the organization anticipates for “most awards to be in increments of $2,500," but provides the caveat that alternate amounts would be considered. Grant applications will be reviewed by UWGK's COVID-19 Fund Distribution team, comprised of five UWGK Board Members.
"With this latest announcement of funding, we are continuing to place dollars directly into the hands of nonprofits who are on the frontlines of COVID-19 response," Becca Sutphen, UWGK Community Impact Director, added. "Every day we are hearing of both new needs and innovative solutions from our nonprofit partners. We look forward to receiving a variety of applications and hope to award organizations who may not have received United Way funding in the past as well as those who have longstanding relationships with us."
This announcement is the latest of several from United Way of Greater Kingsport, which has already distributed $50,000 of local COVID-19 Relief Funding into the Greater Kingsport community in recent weeks.
For qualifying health and human service-oriented, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations looking to apply, UWGK is accepting applications on their website www.uwaykpt.org/covidgrant through Wednesday, May 6th, at 5 PM.
