Boy Scouts of America, Sequoyah Council

The Boy Scouts of America (the BSA) is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with more than 2.4 million youth participants and nearly one million adult volunteers.

As one of the country’s first Boy Scouts of America programs, the Sequoyah Council has helped mold and shape the lives of more than 1 million young people since we were founded in 1936.

Each year, they serve more than 5,800 youth and adults throughout a 16-county service area in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.

The United Way of Greater Kingsport supports the Boy Scouts through the Youth Development Program. This program teaches participants life-long skills and values. They acquire the skills they need to make the right choices, meet challenges and overcome them. Youth learn today what will sustain them tomorrow.

The Sequoyah Council is known for being an innovative leader for providing opportunities, resources, facilities, and programs that attract and keep young people involved in Scouting. Every successful Scouting program has a centerpiece and for Sequoyah Council, that centerpiece is Camp Davy Crockett. Located in the picturesque mountains of East Tennessee Camp Davy Crockett lies between Rogersville and Bulls Gap. For nearly 50 years, this camp has provided the ideal backdrop for almost any outdoor Scouting experience as we have continued to introduce new programs and facilities to best serve the needs of our Scouts and leaders.

The BSA’s goal is to train youth in responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance through participation in a wide range of outdoor activities, educational programs, and, at older age levels, career-oriented programs in partnership with community organizations.
