Greater Kingsport Family YMCA seeks CEO

Position Description and Board Expectations:

The Greater Kingsport Family YMCA (the “Y”) promotes healthy living, youth development and social responsibility in the northeast Tennessee community by welcoming families of all backgrounds, incomes, and cultures. The incoming CEO must possess a strong business acumen required to oversee an organization that serves more than 17,000 individuals each year, operational budget of approximately $3.5 million and 184 employees (14 full time/170 part time). The CEO is expected to possess strong communication and interpersonal skills to be an advocate in the larger community for the mission, goals, and values of the Y through leadership and advocacy positions in other civic and non-profit organizations to build programs that meet community needs. Just as importantly, the CEO must be visible within the YMCA, frequently interacting with members, staff, participants and volunteers, being willing to provide assistance in functional areas needing support.   

 

The ideal candidate will embody a passion for the YMCA’s cause and will reinforce a culture of inclusion, integrity, character, and service within the YMCA organization that encourages and promotes values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. The CEO must ensure that the Y staff, members and volunteers uphold a high standard of personal conduct, and that the Y conveys a sense of belonging in all of its undertakings.

 

Key attributes for the success of the next leader:

  • Identify and leverage community partnerships to the mutual benefit of all parties.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people from all backgrounds and demographics.
  • Aptitude to build and strengthen relationships within the YMCA staff culture, fostering individual and team performance.
  • Proven fiscally sound business management practices.
  • Proven fundraising experience with successful cultivation for future giving.
