United WE READ, a community initiative of the United Way of Greater Kingsport, awarded $10,000 to Rock Springs Elementary School to be used toward their library rebuilding efforts on Tuesday, March 8, 2016. After a sprinkler system malfunction on February 8th, Rock Springs Elementary suffered flooding to the library, causing a loss of 2,000 books and over $20,000 in damages.

United Way of Greater Kingsport (UWGK) hosted its 2015 Annual Meeting on February 17, 2016 with approximately 110 people in attendance, including those who GIVE, ADVOCATE, and VOLUNTEER on behalf of the organization, representatives from UWGK Member Agencies, and public officials from the City of Kingsport and Sullivan County. Becca Sutphen, UWGK Community Impact Director and United States Army veteran who served our country in Operation Iraqi Freedom, led the Pledge of Allegiance.

KINGSPORT — Domtar’s Kingsport mill has kicked off its 100th year of operation in the city by donating 5,000 pounds of copy paper to the United Way of Greater Kingsport and 30 of its member agencies. Additional activities and events will be announced throughout the year, the company said in a prepared release.

The Harvest of Hope Community Garden, 130 Charlemont Street, Kingsport, will be added to the Quilt Trail at a ceremony to take place at the garden on Wednesday Feb. 4, 4:00pm, with the installation of a 4-foot by 4-foot Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt block.
