BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. — Volunteers and nonprofits can now find each other in one place.
In partnership with the United Way of Greater Kingsport, officials from United Way of Bristol launched a new volunteer portal Wednesday for community members to learn about available opportunities.
The website, www.unitedwaybristol.galaxydigital.com, allows nonprofit organizations in the region to post any volunteer needs, promote fundraisers and list events. Community members and businesses can then search for opportunities and respond to needs if they’re interested.
“As we went through our strategic planning, we talked to our agencies, and they told us that they needed volunteers, but those potential volunteers weren’t aware of what opportunities were available,” said Lola McVey, board chair for United Way of Bristol.
The website is funded through a $10,000 grant from Kingsport, Tennessee-based Eastman Credit Union. Lisa Cofer, executive director for United Way of Bristol said Wednesday that her organization is grateful for the credit union and their continued support throughout the years.
“We are so excited to partner with Eastman Credit Union on this project that will allow us to provide many more opportunities for our volunteers,” Cofer said. “Volunteers are an essential part of our organization, and anything we can do to connect them with avenues to serve is a win-win for all.”
The United Way of Bristol provides funding to 28 agencies across the Mountain Empire. Currently in the midst of its community fundraising campaign, the agency has raised more than $525,000 of its $1.15 million goal.
Officials with Eastman Credit Union said they’re proud to support United Way and its endeavors to make the community a better place.
“United Way is important to ECU because community is important to us,” said Lynn Osborne, regional director for ECU. “We see this software as an opportunity to improve efficiency and effectiveness of volunteers and the United Way staff, allowing more time and energy to be given to those in need.”
