LIVE UNITED

Underneath everything
we are,
Underneath everything
we do,
We are all people.

Connected,
Interdependent,
United.

And when we reach out
a hand to one,
We influence the
condition of all.
That's what it means to

LIVE UNITED.

Tips for Volunteering

The following tips were adapted from materials

1.  Research the causes or issues that are important to you and look for a group that deals with issues you feel strongly about.
2. Consider what you have to offer.
3. Think outside the box! There are many opportunities that may not have occurred to you but could be a perfect fit.
4. Don't wait to be asked. Ask friends or colleagues; search the internet for great online volunteer referral services, including http://www.serve.gov/ or try visiting your local volunteer center.
5. Plan a visit and request and interview. Handle it just like a job interview.
6.  If you want to learn something new, find out whether the organization offers training or development opportunities.
7. Find the volunteer opportunities that fit your schedule
8. Volunteer with friends, or as a family.
9. Consider Virtual Volunteering. Some organizations offer opportunities to do volunteer work over the computer.
10.

Don't give up! If you find that your volunteering experience is not what you expected, talk to your volunteer coordinator. Think of what could make it better and present your ideas to them.
